Coming Soon: Open Path

The Switch team had their 2nd meeting last night and it feels like a lot has happened since the first one.

There was a never-dull Switch demo at the Uit Festival with pieces by Georgi Milev and Spencer Theberge.  There was also the pleasure and anticipation of meeting our potential audience for January.
Here's what Carolina had to say about her day there:

"My experience of the Uit Festival in the Spui Theater was really nice. I met Celia first in the Lucent Dans Theater to pick up last year's Switch t-shirts with the hope to sell some and make some small contributions to the budget. We had a nice table where we put a few Switch '12 portfolios, and also the flyers. People were shy at first and didn't dare to ask much. But within 1 hour or so I started to relax, and not mind to welcome people and explain what our goal for switch 2012 is. A good thing is that many didn't know what Switch was, and took flyers, and gave me their contacts...yeah!.

I stayed for at least 4 hours, and just before the show for Switch started (at 16.00) there was such a line up for the grote zaal!. Really exciting to see."

Our "Fans" at the Uit Festival.

Our next event, however, will be “Open Path” this Monday September 12th from 19:00 to 21:00 at the Lucent studios.(see the facebook page so you can register or email switch.production.team@gmail.com).
As part of the team’s desire for connections outside of ourselves we decided to embellish some small jam sessions a few of us held last year with musician friends. This time we are opening it up to any one who wants to join in for artistic creation and/or collaboration in any art medium in a multi-disciplinary workshop setting.  There will be some musicians from the Koninklijk Conservatorium, artist Bernie Autsema (details below) and dancers from NDT.  We hope for professional and non-professional participants and an opportunity for people to explore outside of their ordinary. Interaction, inter-inspiration, creation…. We are leaving it quite open with a few task ideas ready and we’ll wait to develop things for when we meet the participants. The tag line is “Let’s see what happens”.  But from past experiences – it will be good whatever it is.

As for other business:
Right after our first meeting Carolina dove into her perfectionist work on the merchandise that will be sold at the Switch performance in Januaryfor Jeugd Cultuur Fonds.  She is working with Kees Knap – zeef druk, www.keesknaapzeefdruk.nl, who have generously agreed to do the printing for the Switch merchandise as one of our sponsor’s.  Caro apparently had a very positive meeting with Kees and Ingrid over a week ago to discuss the creations.  She describes them as being a very open and accommodating duo and was happy to recommend them to anyone looking to have their visions carried out.

Carolina also met with Bernie Autsema - www.bernie-autsema.nl.  Bernie is a professional artist and long time friend of NDT. She has been sketching and painting company dancers in rehearsal for almost 21 years.  Not only is Bernie’s work going to be seen on much of Switch’s marketing material’s this year but she and Carolina worked together in a special session with company dancer Karyn Banquet to create images for Carolina’s “surprise” merchandise items.  Bernie has always been very generous with us and we feel very fortunate to have her working with us on this particular project.

After consultations with NDT administration on schedules and logistics, the first rehearsal schedule will go up tomorrow….  Choreographers can sign up after our working hours whenever there is space at the Lucent studios to start working on their pieces with their colleagues.  In the past it has started calmly and slowly with preparations mounting to last minute cram sessions in January….. here we go.....
